Hi Kathleen,

Well we do the PR for Loc8tor so i am probably biased!! :-)

The Loc8tor has multiple features and works by attaching tags about the size of a stamp to things you may lose frequently or are frightened of losing for example your car keys, wallet or mobile phone.

Locate mode – Lets you find anything that is tagged within a range of 600 feet. Using visual, audio and directional technology the Loc8tor will guide you to within 1 inch of the item.

Alert mode – If the tagged item goes out of the set range the Loc8tor will notify you immediately. For example; if you drop your keys or wallet the Loc8tor will alert you before you wander to far.

Panic Mode – The tags have a small button on which if pressed will send an audible alarm to the Loc8tor. You could attach a tag to a child or dependent.

The Loc8tor is the perfect gadget for those who have a tendency to lose things. You could also attach a tag to a child or dog…if either wanders out of the preset range the Loc8tor will alert you.

I havent actually seen the Serenity so cant really comment.

Thanks for the additional diffrentiator - I missed that one.

Thanks for commenting, Ian.

I agree, backing up takes a lot of time, especially maintaining the archives. However, compared to creating all the data from scratch, it's no time at all.

I take your point about offline permanent storage though, will have to brainstorm possible solutions.

The main reason more companies don't backup more frequently is because backing up takes time itself, both of the IT person doing the backup, and of the server as it copys the data.

Data backups are in a very poor state generally; the hardware is slow, the TCO high, policies are non-existent and the software is awful.

Unfortunately, as hard drive capacity continues to grow, off-line permanent storage simply can't keep up.
